At the edge of the PeeDee, a place they call the Black Swamp,
Lived a man they called Tom Walker,
A one room shack, flat bottom boat,
And a well worn hawk bill knife,

One Friday evening around twilight,
Tom slid that boat in that slow black water,
And headed up that river to the town,
Had some woman to see, in Black Gator tavern up stream,

Lock up the stores, load guns with both bores,
Feel your spine shiver, Walker’s coming up that slow black river,
Gonna get tanked up, run a game and get mean,
Might start him a fight, swing that hawk bill knife,
Pray to GOD and Jim Beam, he’ll pass you by,
Tom Walker’s coming upstream.

Tom busted in bout a quarter o’ ten, it got real still and quiet,
Saw that woman at the bar, sharing shots with some Joe,
Pulled that knife in his hand, broke a bottle for the other,
Look’s like somebody’s dying tonight, in Black Gator tavern up stream,

Lock up the stores, load guns with both bores,
Feel your spine shiver, Walker’s coming up that slow black river,
Gonna get tanked up, run a game and get mean,
Might start him a fight, swing that hawk bill knife,
Pray to GOD and Jim Beam, he’ll pass you by,
Tom Walker’s coming upstream.

Blades, blood and bullets flew, got all deathly quiet,
Sheriff came, got some words and some names, looked off in the night,
All that was heard, from the river’s edge,
The fool brought a gun to a damn knife fight.
